Torbay Hospital needs more than quiet support. It needs visible, vocal, and practical support from the communities it serves.
The campaign began because of concerns about the future of cardiac services, but it has evolved as wider concerns have emerged about the future of acute services across Torbay Hospital.
These include vital services that underpin the safe functioning of an acute hospital, including microbiology and histopathology, as well as concerns and questions surrounding the future provision of other services, including A&E and oral and maxillofacial care.
Services such as microbiology are not simply laboratories operating in the background. They play a critical role in patient care, providing clinicians with the testing and information needed to diagnose infection and make timely treatment decisions. Histopathology is similarly fundamental to diagnosis, cancer care and many surgical services.
Our campaign is therefore about something much bigger than any single department. It is about protecting Torbay Hospital's future as a fully functioning acute hospital for the people of Torbay and South Devon.

Volunteer With Us

Volunteer Head of Fundraising
Lead and develop our fundraising: coordinate activities and campaigns, work with our Ambassadors and volunteers, build relationships with local businesses and community groups, and help organise events. Previous fundraising experience is welcome but not essential; enthusiasm and commitment matter most. Flexible time and location, with remote working. Unpaid voluntary position.

Lead our marketing and communications: set the overall strategy, strengthen the campaign's brand and public profile, develop campaign materials and press activity, and grow our supporter networks, working alongside our Social Media Manager. Suited to someone with marketing, communications, PR or digital experience. Flexible, ideally 5 to 8 hours a week, hybrid or remote. Unpaid voluntary position.

Help grow the campaign in your area: raise awareness, connect with local community groups, support fundraising and campaign events, and liaise with our volunteers and Friends of the Campaign. No previous experience needed, and you can give as much or as little time as you can. We are especially keen to hear from people in the areas still to be covered, listed below.
Areas we are still looking to cover: Ashburton, Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot, Dartmouth, Brixham, Dawlish, Watcombe / Barton / Willows / Maidencombe, Town / Torre / Ellacombe / Plainmoor, and Chelston / Cockington / Shiphay / Livermead. As the campaign grows we will recruit Ambassadors for other areas within Torbay Hospital's catchment.

- Put up posters – in your window, workplace, community centres, shops and cafes (with permission).
- Display a banner – at home, at local events, or in high-visibility locations.
- Host or attend local meetings – invite friends, neighbours and colleagues to hear what's at stake.
- Share your story – patient, family member, or staff: your experience helps others understand why this matters.
