Torbay Hospital needs more than quiet support. It needs visible, vocal, and practical support from the communities it serves.
The campaign began because of concerns about the future of cardiac services, but it has evolved as wider concerns have emerged about the future of acute services across Torbay Hospital.
These include vital services that underpin the safe functioning of an acute hospital, including microbiology and histopathology, as well as concerns and questions surrounding the future provision of other services, including A&E and oral and maxillofacial care.
Services such as microbiology are not simply laboratories operating in the background. They play a critical role in patient care, providing clinicians with the testing and information needed to diagnose infection and make timely treatment decisions. Histopathology is similarly fundamental to diagnosis, cancer care and many surgical services.
Our campaign is therefore about something much bigger than any single department. It is about protecting Torbay Hospital's future as a fully functioning acute hospital for the people of Torbay and South Devon.
